The choice of interviewees was based on the following criteria: • relatives of the persons killed at the Fosse Ardeatine were chosen in order to seek a balance between those who were noted for their participation in public struggle for memory, and others who had been less visible or more silent and sometimes had a more ambivalent attitude toward the events.
