In 1927, Idris Morgan, the physician at Newcastle Hospital, reported the case of one soldier who suffered from war neurosis. A 33-year-old lieutenant in the Australian Imperial forces was first examined in 1926. He had suffered a blow to his skull in 1916 and was unable to remember what had happened in France. Very frequently he ‘suffered complete amnesia for the events of one part of a day’. His right arm became paralysed for seven months, which was ‘accompanied by a glove anaesthesia of the whole arm’.

After seeing these methods at work, White became convinced of their effectiveness. He believed the use of analysis and suggestion should be encouraged.
